The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) community united in a momentous celebration, paying homage to the extraordinary achievements of Professor Solomon Kadiri as he reached the remarkable milestone of his 70th birthday on June 14th, 2023. An awe-inspiring valedictory program was meticulously organized, honoring his outstanding contributions to medical education, research, and compassionate patient care.


Professor Kadiri embarked on his illustrious journey in medicine at the renowned University of Ibadan, where he pursued his medical studies, culminating in his graduation in 1977. His unwavering dedication to expanding his knowledge led him to the prestigious University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, where he completed his residency training in 1985. In November 1986, he embraced a new chapter in his career, joining the University of Ibadan as a revered faculty member, devoting himself to advancing medical knowledge and nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.


Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Kadiri's exceptional expertise and unwavering commitment to the field earned him esteemed recognition. He earned Fellowships from renowned institutions such as the National Postgraduate Medical College, Medical College, West African College of Physicians, and the esteemed Royal College of Physicians of London. Furthermore, he was awarded the prestigious degree of Doctor of Medicine from the National College, cementing his status as a distinguished medical practitioner.


Within the esteemed walls of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kadiri held various esteemed positions, including Professor from 1999, Head of Medicine from 2003 to 2006, and Chairman of the College of Medicine Curriculum Committee from 2010 to 2013. His impact on the academic community reverberated through his invaluable guidance in numerous dissertations within the fellowship programs, and his active involvement in the development of innovative examination assessment methods.


Professor Kadiri's research pursuits centered around the intricate realms of kidney health, hypertension, the epidemiology of hypertension and diabetes, and acute kidney injury. His collaborations in local and international projects have contributed to the expansion of medical knowledge and the enhancement of patient care. Notably, his influential role as a temporary advisor to the esteemed World Health Organization (WHO) helped shape guidelines for the management of hypertension and chronic kidney disease in Nigeria, leaving an indelible mark on the field.
