In a momentous event, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, inaugurated seven projects at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. Alongside the ceremony, the Minister presented a letterrenewing the appointment of Dr. Abiodun Otegbayo as the Chief Medical Director.

Dr. Ehanire described these projects as a testament to the Federal Government's commitment to enhancing the healthcare infrastructure at all levels. He emphasized that the initiatives would strengthen UCH's capacity to fulfill its mandate of providing treatment, training, and conducting research.

Highlighting President Muhammadu Buhari's dedication to preparing the country for future challenges, the Minister revealed that the government had approved the establishment of a molecular laboratory, an oxygen plant, an ICU, and an Isolation Center for all 36 states after the COVID-19 pandemic. These purpose-built facilities aim to address the increasing demands of patient care during public health emergencies and routine services.

Dr. Ehanire also mentioned an ongoing program aimed at improving access to cancer treatment, learning, and research nationwide. He expressed optimism that UCH would soon benefit from such initiatives, as the government's goal is to continuously invest in medical centers and upgrade their capacity and quality of care to global standards, surpassing those of foreign countries.

The Minister commended the Board and Management of UCH for their remarkable initiatives and achievements. He encouraged them to reclaim their reputation not only as Nigeria's premier hospital but also as a leading destination for cutting-edge healthcare in Africa.

The projects commissioned included a 64-Slice CT scanner, which enhances UCH's radio-diagnostic capabilities. Additionally, the hospital now boasts advanced in-patient and out-patient Digital Mamography machines, equipped with the latest 2D and 3D technology for early detection of breast cancer in women, thereby improving their chances of survival.

Furthermore, UCH unveiled an ultra-modern molecular laboratory, a Pressure Swing Absorption Oxygen Plant, and a state-of-the-art Demonstration Room in the Nurse/Midwife/Public Health Nurse Tutors' School.

By undertaking these transformative projects, UCH reaffirms its commitment to providing world-class healthcare services and contributing to the advancement of medical care in Nigeria and beyond.
